The outdoor glass-wrapped patio serves up aperitifs and transcendental views of the city’s skyline
 Perched on the 43rd floor of the Ocean Financial Centre in the Central Business District, just minutes from Raffles Place MRT, Zafferano has quietly opened with little fanfare but, make no mistake, this is not just another homey Italian. Zafferano is a glass-wrapped Italian restaurant embedded within a glass-wrapped outdoor lounge and, at the heart of it, is a stunning circular bar centerpiece where a resident DJ spins upbeat tunes (that goes high octane on weekends). Other than aperitifs – including 40 bottles of wine available by the glass – the outdoor timber-decked patio serves up transcendental 270-degree wrap-around views of the city skyline. You may never tire of the panoramic views but should you decide to step indoors, eye candies are aplenty and these range from the culinary buzz in the glass-walled kitchens to the works-of-art on your plates.
What to expect?

Saffron-flavoured risotto with chopped black truffles crowned with quail’s leg confit and foie gras
 Fittingly, the cuisine by chef Roberto De Franco is contemporary Italian plated with aesthetics in mind and the results are mostly dazzling. Organic eggs are poached and served in savoury Parmesan cream with sprigs of slender asparagus topped with just enough black truffle slices to envelope the palate with umami; large tubes of paccheri pasta (the only one of eight pasta options that is not home-made) are flanked by succulent lobster chunks with cherry tomatoes playing supporting casts; and saffron-flavoured risotto with chopped black truffles stars a toothsome confit of quail’s leg that competes for attention with an accompanying hunk of sautéed foie gras. The mains of roasted suckling pig with Modena balsamic vinegar and red grouper with clams in cherry tomato stew demonstrated less finesse (the suckling pig was not as crispy as we like while the red grouper was served a tad cold) relative to the fore courses though there’s nothing a little kitchen tweaking cannot do but the desserts (order the dolci assortiti, or assorted Italian desserts) more than compensate.
